HELP FOR WOMEN IN NEED

Together giving hope and future

Pixabay%202_female-1171956_1280 Women in Bangladesh experience daily discrimination and violence – in the streets, in private settings, and through a difficult-to-access justice system. Women living in poverty, women with disabilities, as well as members of ethnic and religious minorities are particularly affected.

In Mymensingh, a group of women from the indigenous Garo people has come together to support victims of violence, especially after rapes. They all belong to the Garo people, a small Christian ethnic group in northern Bangladesh. Holi Dio works for Caritas in prison pastoral care for incarcerated minorities and is undertaking legal training; Ruma Thigidi leads a youth group with a wide church network; Subarna Poli Drong leads a respected peace organization and is nationally known in human rights circles.

Together with the brothers of Taizé in Bangladesh, a center is being established where help is provided through counseling, psychological support, and legal assistance. The initiative works informally and relies on donations. Thanks to your support, victims of domestic and sexual violence receive quick and direct help and regain a piece of their dignity.
